Event description
Entrance for this event in Alix Goolden Performance Hall is at 900 Johnson Street.
The Victoria Conservatory of Music is proud to present the world premiere of JÉHANNE, a powerful new opera that explores the extraordinary vision quest of French heroine Joan of Arc. Composed by Opera Quest Artistic Director Colin Doroschuk, this bilingual work—featuring a libretto in English and French—will be brought to life by a dynamic cast of emerging Canadian opera artists and dancers, supported by a chorus of Conservatory vocalists and an orchestra of acoustic, electric, and electronic instruments.
The cast features three rising Canadian talents:
Kathryn Riopel – soprano
Jessica Lyublinsky – mezzo soprano
Natalie Vong – mezzo soprano
Staged in the breathtaking Alix Goolden Performance Hall, JÉHANNE is the culminating performance of Opera Quest—a unique professional training and performance program run through the Victoria Conservatory of Music, offering emerging singers mentorship in all aspects of opera production, from music and stage direction to choreography, lighting, and arts entrepreneurship.
This initiative is generously supported by the RBC Foundation and NRS Foundation.
