A 2024 JUNO Award nominee and hailed by The Village Voice as “Canada’s preeminent jazz trumpeter,” Brownman Ali is a Trinidad-born, NYC-schooled protégé of trumpet legend Randy Brecker. Now splitting his time between Brooklyn and Toronto, Brownman leads 8 unique ensembles, including the award-winning Cruzao Latin-Jazz Quintet and the Miles Davis-inspired Brownman Electryc Trio, all under his Brooklyn-based label Browntasauras Records.
With over 300 recording credits, Brownman is recognized for his genre-spanning, authentic trumpet work across jazz, hip hop, and Latin music. He has shared stages and studios with artists including Quincy Jones, Paul Simon, Chucho Valdés, Guru’s Jazzmatazz, Mos Def, KRS-One, Mingus Dynasty Big Band, and more.
