Event description
Good day Relatives!
Please see the poster and note the date. Mark the calendar on the wall, tell your friends, and note it on your calendars on your phone. We have worked very hard alongside our partners at- Uvic Legacy Art gallery, Aunty Skoden, City of Victoria, Elemental body adornment, and Downtown Victoria!
We would like to acknowledge that we are hosting this event on the beautiful territory of the Lekwungen people now known today as the Songhees and Esquimalt nations. Coastal Bead Collective ourselves have a deep connection to the lands of the Lekwungen. Our Nana was born where the Empress now sits in an old village site of the Songhees people. So hosting downtown on Indigenous peoples day is very full circle. We can't thank our Lekwungen relatives enough for opening their territory to many Nations from across Canada that call this place home. It does not come without great sacrifice of them. Gilakas'la, háy̓sxʷ q̓ə ❤️
We look forward to hosting this beautiful event on National Indigenous People's Day. A day dedicated to uplifting our people, gathering as community and celebrating the beautiful diversity of Indigenous people.
We look forward to welcoming 38 vendors, singers and drummers for a Jam session for Indigenous song carriers from various Nations across the Island. It's going to be a beautiful day. Wey! @aunty.skoden @uviclegacygalleries @cityofvictoria @elementalbodyadornment #coastalbeadcollective #yyjevents #lekwungenterritory #esquimalt #songhees
